CONSTRUCTIVISM
ART GALLERY
ARTIST
ZEINAB ALHASHEMI

Constructivism: We See Things as We Are presents two movements in time simultaneously. The first implicates an artist looking back at the origins of her practice and the second is a forward motion, pushing beyond familiar parameters and into the abstractions of color, structure and space. This solo exhibition by Zeinab Alhashemi at Leila Heller Gallery is multi-layered. Her concerns unravel from the gridded structures of the city and the patterns of the natural environment to a deep understanding of the body, prosthetics and hybridity. The installation takes different formations and installations one is in Leila Heller Gallery in Al Quoz area and one as a stand-alone sculpture in DIFC public open space as part of ART Dubai initiative.

CAMOULFLAGE
ART INSTALLATION
ARTIST
ZEINAB EL HASHEMI

The name Camoulflage comes the blend of the came leather/hair within the polygon desert dunes, the installation strikes the audience as a desert but can also be seen as an abstract camel silhouette. Making an abstract of what may seem like a distorted polygon desert sand dunes merged into mountains, this time it is the camel hair that covers the form of the sculpture. The scenic shade of the natural camel hair comes from different carefully selected camel breeds. The sculpture expresses some of the geographic scenery in the region, from Liwa to the northern emirates (musandam) to emirate expression through the color shades and hight of the polygon. The camel hair on the polygon symbolizes the fundamental uses of this beautiful creature that rules the desert.

D3 - FBMI SPATIAL DESIGN
DUBAI DESIGN WEEK

Thousands of years ago on the plains of Central Asia, the art of making carpets was developed, as part of an enduring tradition that has never been surpassed by technology or machines. Nowadays, and after another thousands of years of perfecting carpet weaving; handmade rugs are still the gold standard, for what they possess of qualities and characteristics that simply cannot be imitated, for the efforts and hard work of mothers who dream of better life for their families, and for each knot tied around a story of struggling and fighting poverty to live with dignity. For those reasons and more, handmade rugs are always one of a kind; each piece has its own personality, each piece tells a different story, each piece is a unique tone played on a harp of a proud woman, each piece is a new life.

It is an architectural abstract conceptual expression of the complicated yet simple and delicate layered beautiful structure of the flower Petals, while highlighting this feature with simple LED Hidden light and keeping the functional required cabinets wherever needed.
